History 1898-1914 Renault
Renault's industrial adventure begins in 1898. Its founder, Louis Renault, has
two passions: technology innovation and factories. In 1905, with an initial
order for 250 taxis, factories Renault take the series production. New phase in
1913: to increase productivity and ensure diversification of production, Louis
Renault introduces Taylorism in its factories. A novelty in France.
1914-1919
Renault is involved in the war effort. The company makes trucks, stretchers,
ambulances, cars and even shells FT17 make a decisive contribution to the final
victory ... In 1919, Louis Renault is the first private industrial France.
1964-1975
The planning and export are the two axes of development of the R?gie, directed
by Pierre Dreyfus since 1955.
The share of sales outside the French border has risen to 55% in 1975. Economic
and practical, the Renault 5 was a bestseller. The R?gie is expanding its range
with a high-end model, the Renault 16, which already announced the "pleasure of
driving." In parallel, Renault knows an impressive progression in the rallies.
1975-1984
Growth continued at a rapid pace until the early 80s. The renewal of the range
is accelerated with the departure of two high-end models: the Renault 25 and
Renault Espace. The mark was imposed in the area of sports competition and
debuted in Formula 1. However, the policy of expansion, the large number of high

1984-1990
Renault takes a drastic reduction of costs. The company re-focus its activity
and devotes all its efforts on the renewal of the range. In 1987, the profits
return to Renault, with 3,700 million francs. New winds blow to the group. This

1990-1999

Renault thinks of a merger with Volvo, which was finally abandoned in 1993. The
big change began in 1994 with a partial opening of the capital, the
privatization of the company becomes effective in July 1996. Freer, Renault
enters the capital of Nissan in 1999.

Laguna, the Renault Avantime, the Renault Vel Satis and the new generation

Since 1999
The Renault-Nissan Alliance consolidates the participation of Renault in the
